about

English poetry of the late 19th century set to music in the late 20th century
_____________________________________________________
Originally recorded around 1980 by an art-rock band called "Zyklon", this music would never have seen the light of day, if Marcel Bongers hadn't accidentally rediscovered an old tape reel in the hidden depths of his musical archive. He played this found treasure to his friend and musical companion Karsten, who agreed that these songs, which had been nearly 20 years old at that time in 1998, were too good to be forgotten. Yet, though he liked the compositions and especially the correspondence between the old-fashioned poetry and the atmospheric musical realization very much, he remarked that the sound of the recording was somewhat flat and lifeless and needed to be freshened up a bit. So he overdubbed some tracks using his DX-7 synth and was pleased in a way how well the sounds mingled with the original songs.
Nevertheless, the entire sound quality is far away from being able to cope with any kind of professionally produced hightech recordings. But let us tell you: these songs do have their own special slightly antique charm. So here it is presented to your ears for the first time, some 35 years after it has been performed: "CROSSING THE BAR"

In 1978 Marcel Bongers had a notable success in the progressive underground scene with "Pacific Prison", which is now internationally an often sought-after collecter's item. Nearly ten years after the sudden split of his "M.L. Bongers Project" he found a new companion for his musical ambitions in Karsten Schulze. They co-founded "Silent Sun", the only continuous of his various follow-up projects. ... more
